International Funding Awards & Scholarships

Below is a list of the most common award opportunities pursued by IPDP participants at Buffalo State. Please note that this list is not exhaustive—additional scholarships may be available through community organizations or family and other external networks. We encourage IPDP participants to explore all potential sources of support.

Many student cohorts also choose to coordinate fundraisers to help offset the cost of their study abroad experiences. Those interested in this option can talk with program leaders for guidance, ideas, and best practices.

Campus Application Portal for Scholarships (CAPS)

CAPS determines your eligibility for general scholarships available through your academic program. Once you have completed the CAPS General Application you will be auto-matched to scholarships for which you immediately qualify – no further action is required. Managed through the Financial Aid Office. 

How to Apply: Ensure your CAPS profile is up to date.

Civic and Community Engagement Scholarships

Scholarships of $250-$1,000 are available for Buffalo State students to support participation in international service-learning or international volunteer experiences. Preference is given to students who participate in experiences in developing countries. Recipients receive funds directly applied to their student account. Managed by the Study Away office. 

How to Apply: Submit application and materials online approximately three (3) months prior to departure.

Civic and Community Engagement Scholarships

Graduate Student Association

Financial support may be available for eligible Buffalo State graduate students for research and scholarship, creation and/or presentation of professional posters and documents related to research and scholarship, participation and/or membership in professional organizations, and travel/participation in professional conferences. Recipients receive funds as a reimbursement after travel. Awards provided through the Graduate Student Association. 

How to Apply: Graduate Students ONLY may submit online application to the GSA at least 10 days before departure.

Honors Endowed Enhancement Fund

The Honors Endowed Enhancement Fund is used to provide financial support to Buffalo State Muriel A. Howard Honors Program students who wish to participate in opportunities that will enhance their academic experience. Funding of up to $1,000 may be requested, with an average award of ~$400. Awards provided through the Honors Grant Allocation Committee. 

How to Apply: Honors Students ONLY may submit online application (twice max) to the Honors Program. See website for deadlines.

Honors Endowed Enhancement Fund

IPDP Academic Unit Support

Awards of approximately $300-$600 may be available from deans and department chairs to help cover travel expenses associated with participation in a Buffalo State IPDP program. Recipients receive funds as a reimbursement after travel. Managed by the School of Education Office of the Dean.

How to Apply: No application necessary. IPDP program coordinators will request support on your behalf and notify you of your award.

IPDP Global Exploration Project Support

Awards of approximately $250-$1000 are be available for Buffalo State students to support global exploration projects completed while participating in an IPDP program. Recipients receive funds as a reimbursement after travel. Awards provided through Chicola funding support and the IPDP. Managed by the School of Education Office of the Dean.

How to Apply: Submit completed application form and supporting materials by email to Tamara Horstman-Riphahn. The project outline must be approved by the program leader(s) before applying for financial support. Applications are due May 1 for projects to be conducted spring semester or summer and December 1 for projects to be conducted fall semester or J-term.

Global Exploration Project application

Study Abroad Scholarship Fund

The Study Abroad Scholarship Fund provides financial awards to meritorious students participating in Buffalo State international study programs and contributing to promotional activities for these programs. Funds provided by generous alumni and other donors. Recipients receive funds directly applied to their student account. Managed by the Study Away office. 

How to Apply: Submit completed form to the Study Away Office. Applications are due November 15 for spring programs with in-semester travel and fall programs with travel in Winter. Applications are due April 15 for fall programs with in-semester travel and spring programs with travel in Summer.
